Hello, you can call me user0 and I am creating this site looking to collaborate and create a community dedicated to spreading open-source and free programs as alternatives to the oversized companies that only care about profits. I am not a programmer and my experience is rather limited. Please be patient with me while I learn and if you are experienced. Please lend a hand in my goal if you have the time for it. ********************************************************************************************** * _____ _ __ __ ______ _ _ * * / ____| | \ \ / / | ____| (_) | * * | | | |__ __ _ _ __ __ _ ___ \ \_/ /__ _ _ _ __ | |__ _ __ ___ __ _ _| | * * | | | '_ \ / _` | '_ \ / _` |/ _ \ \ / _ \| | | | '__| | __| | '_ ` _ \ / _` | | | * * | |____| | | | (_| | | | | (_| | __/ | | (_) | |_| | | | |____| | | | | | (_| | | | * * \_____|_| |_|\__,_|_| |_|\__, |\___| |_|\___/ \__,_|_| |______|_| |_| |_|\__,_|_|_| * * __/ | * * |___/ * * * ********************************************************************************************** One of the biggest ways that big tech companies control your information and keep you dependant on their services is through your email address and the services they tie to them. Microsoft in particular has been especially predatory lately, forcing you to jump through multiple hoops in order to access your mail. Usually requiring you to give them information you don't want to give them. The thing is gmail and outlook aren't the only email providers. There are a great deal of email providers that don't require you to be dependent on a large megacompany. I personally use a service called tuta, but that is not the only alternative by far and then there is the option of self-hosting if you don't mind doing a bit of work and trust your network security skills enough. Below I will list off a hand full email services that serve as alternatives. Please do your research on any of these services before deciding to switch to them, every service will have it's ups and downs. I don't endorse any of these services and have not reviewed any outside of TUTA and can not vouch for the level of security they provide.TUTA PROTONMAIL MAILFENCE NEXTCLOUD HUSHMAIL FASTMAIL SKIFF VFEMAIL WöLKLIMAIL PURELYMAIL SOVERIN LIBREM SWISSCOWS SAFEMAIL RUNBOX NEOMAILBOX MAILBOX KOLABNOW AUTISTICI STARTMAIL DISMAIL MIGADU COCK COTSE COUNTERMAIL POSTEO DISROOT RISEUP
Ok now that you have switched your email its time to address the elephant in the room. or more accurately the penguin in the room. I highly recommend you change your operating system on your PC and there realistically is only one alternative for Windows users and that is Linux. There is one other option that I know of called AtlasOS, but I don't have experience with it so at the end I'll have a short review by a user with more experience on it. The issue for most users is that Linux from the outside looks complicated and difficult to learn. For the most part this is not the case and almost all Linux distros have a modern and pretty GUI Just like Windows or Mac. if you don't want to dig any deeper into Linux then you can just use it as a regular desktop. That said I think the thing that makes Linux great and such a clear choice for people that like being in control of the things they use is that if you are willing to learn a how Linux works then you are rewarded with things working in a very fast and efficient manor and have far more control over what your system is doing. One of the things alot of Linux users like and can be intimidating for non-Linux users is the number of distros, short for distribution. The big reason I feel this intimidates new users is because it makes it hard to know and choose what disto to go with. for any new users out there I recommend Just going with any distro that is fairly popular. most distros are using the same base distro and add GUI elemennts and tools for you to use right out of the box. Below I will list a hand full of Linux distros. I will try to seporate the distros into 4 categories from beginners to experienced to expert and Misc. Please bare in mind that I have not tested out the vast majority of these distros and although I am currently studying Linux I would concider myself a novice.

PuTTY is a free SSH and telnet with xterm terminal emulation. I personaly have not explored PuTTY a terribly large amount, but there is a chance that many of you have used it without knowing as alot of companys use it for inventory managment across multiple branches and systems. Simplex is an open source chat app the dosen't require a phone number or email. I use it as my main communication app so that I don"t have to give up my email and phone number to companies that have a strong profit motive and can't be trusted with your information. User: theonlymortal PeerJS
PeerJS is an open source project that simplifies WebRTC. I once again have not tested out PeerJS, but in a few months I plan to mess around with it. I have a strong interest in learning more about open source projects like this. User: theonlymortal Come join the community on discord
